A few years ago, I started feeling some pains in the back, hands, shoulders and neck, to be honest I was not aware that my ergonomics were not set up properly. So as any normal guy, I started asking, reading health care blogs, and digesting a lot information that was not helping me at all. So I found this video in you tube, which by the way it made sense because I had an ergonomic keyboard. These advises changed the way I work on a daily basis. Summarizing:
- Please be aware the average desk height is 29″ to 30″ tall. Is not set for you, is set up for everybody, so It could be too high or too short. This is where your chair comes into play. Adjust the height of your chair so your elbows are bent at 90 degrees.
- Get a footrest if your feet are to high or to low.
- Adjust the height of your monitor.
- Your eyes should be focused at the top of the screen.
- Mind your mouse and your keyboard.
- The key don’t reach to your phone. Move every 45 mins.
What matters here is this message, you will be sitting in your desk more than one thousand hours yearly, you need to have an strategy to deal with them. The trick here is a good set up in your desktop will let you be more productive on your daily activities.
I’m not a fan to work on the couch, the bed, or in an environment that distracts, it leads to procrastination. If you want to be productive, focus on getting out of it.
